Cosmetics can be deadly!
This Tuesday Nutrition In the Kitchen is taking a week off, as I have been extremely busy with my local group class starting today.
Instead I though I would share with you my favorite beauty “secrets”.
I have switched to non toxic skin care a long time ago.  It all started as learned about toxins in one of the many nutrition seminars I took.
We are bombarded by toxins on a daily basis.
Here is some fun facts for you. This is a list of substances found in cosmetics:
- Endocrine disruptors like phtalates (They interfere with the normal functioning of your endocrine system, throwing your hormones out of balance)- they have also been linked to breast cancer.
- Hormone disruptors like Triclosan
- Parabens (linked to breast tumors)
- Carcinogens like 1,3-butaidene and Parabens (linked to breast tumors)
- Heavy metals like lead. (linked to sterility and miscarriage)
Toxins are absorbed by the skin, but they are stored in the adipose tissue. That means that the more toxic you become, the more fat your body will have to accumulate in order to store the toxins. Especially when  your liver is overloaded and overworked and it’s ability to process and eliminate the toxin load becomes impaired.
Did you know adipose cells act as endocrine organs and make you more insulin resistant (driving you towards diabetes), more leptin resistant (suppressing the feeling of satiety) and more Estrogen dominant (a whole chain reaction of hormonal imbalances)?
Both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s have been recognized as being linked to impaired detoxification ability of the liver, after exposure to toxic substances.
A non toxic skin care secret that works great.
The key word when it comes to non-toxic skin care is simplify!
I use only one product for my face and body, it’s MCT oil!
Yes, you keto best friend MCT oil, is also an excellent moisturizer. It is 100% not toxic, free of chemicals and additives, and it absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving you greasy or sticky.
I live in drought ridden, super dry California, and MCT oil keeps my skin supple and soft.
Do you want my secret recipe?
Mct oil alone is great but it’s not very fun.
Using a body or face product should also be uplifting, soothing, energizing or calming depending on your mood…
That is why a splash of essential oil makes all the difference.
I need to make a premise here. I am well aware of the essential oil craze going on at the moment. I have been using oils for at least 20 years, for personal use, but I am not part of any multilevel company or sell them directly. The oils I recommend are just a suggestion based on my personal taste!
So here is what I use:
Bergamot Oil (citrusy and very aromatic)
Orange Oil (sweet and citrusy)
Geranium Oil (floral and aromatic)
Grapefruit oil (light, fresh and citrusy)
I do not mix them all together, but use one or two at the time, making new combinations that are never boring.
When you use it on your face, just use one or two drop of essential oils and be careful not to get it into your eyes.
You will save yourself money and a toxic load by just using this recipe!
Hi Vivica, This sounds great! Do you use the MCT oil just as a moisturizer or a cleanser as well?
HI Terrell!!
I just use it as moisturizer, but it could make a great cleanser 🙂 Awesome idea!!
Can you please tell me the mixture combination (amounts/ratio) of MCT oil and an essential oil that you use on your face?
HI Kim
for my face I only put one drop of each essential oil. I do not use them all once, but mix and match depending on mood 🙂
That is such a great tip, I can’t believe I never thought of it!
Thank you Rande! 🙂
Coconut oil is also great as a hair conditioner and a “mouthwash”… put some coconut oil in your mouth and swish around for 5-10 minutes, then rinse. Your teeth will feel super clean and whiter.
Yes! That is called Oil Pulling and it’s an awesome practice!
I have heard that coconut oil has a natural spf of 3 or something like that. I assume MCT oil does?
Sorry I am not aware of any SPF propriety of it.
I love this post. I am in 100% agreement. I make my own soap and have been giving it away to family for years. Never do I buy commercial hair soap or moisturizer. My daughter in law (cancer survivor) will only use it. My sons love it. MCT for cleansing and moisturizing is the bomb! Works great on the inside too, just sayin.
At 73 and not having great skin I tried MCT oil as a moisturizer, I use it at night with a couple of drops of mild oil of oregano mixed in. In the AM I only use the MCT oil as my moisturizer . My blemishes have disappeared and my skin has never looked better and more glowing. Wished I had known about this sooner.
Very nice Rose!! I am so happy to hear.
