This week I’m providing an update on my carnivore experiment from beautiful Mount Shasta. We’re now all the way at week seven of the experiment and I’ve transitioned into a paleolithic ketogenic diet, especially after what I learned from my recent interview with Dr. Zsophia Clements.
As I began eating a mostly carnivore diet I experienced a period of adaptation that has lasted almost a month in which I still had cravings for vegetables, greens, and fermented foods. However, for the past three weeks, I’ve finally transitioned to a diet that is exclusively consisting of meat, mainly red meat, from four-legged animals. Mostly I’m focussing on beef, lamb, sheep, venison, bison,
Benefits I’ve experienced:
Eating large amounts of meat (70% fat / 30% protein) has really made me more aware and conscious of my body. A clear realization of the beautiful machine that our body is. Eating meat has grounded me to the experience of being human.
Some practical advantages of being grounded include: handling stress better, no brain fog. stable energy, and a more calm, clear and effective brain. I’ve also noticed an improved balance of work, personal and spiritual life.
I’m no longer using food as a crutch and am now using it for its natural purpose, nourishment. To this end, I’ve been specifically eating nutrient-dense food sources like beef bone marrow, liver, pretty much everything that I can use, mostly organ meats.
After an initial phase where I was hungry more often and gained a few pounds, I stabilized and wasn’t hungry as often and ate whenever I pleased. I’ve also experienced fewer ups and downs, higher ketosis, and the ability to function for longer periods of time without food. On Keto diet, my energy was not as stable as it is now on the carnivore diet.
My thoughts are evolving and I feel that the carnivore diet has a specific place, is highly beneficial, and can be varied based on an individual’s needs. I think it would be very easy to go about this the wrong way and lack the proper nutrients. Eating steak exclusively will not provide the necessary nutrients that the body needs. Even a healthy body still needs the nutrients provided by the fat contained in the bone marrow, brain, and organ meats.
This has been a fascinating experience and I’ve learned an incredible amount that I have been applying to my clinical practice. There are many that advocates of the carnivore diet that you can follow in the media, but I haven’t noticed many women experiment with it, especially women over 40 years of age. I’m more than happy to share what I’ve been gleaning from the experience, so don’t be shy and reach out if you’re curious about learning more.
Vivica has worked in a nutritional clinical practice of 4 years, coaching countless patients through detoxes and lifestyle changes.
In 2014 after her discovery of being pre-diabetic, she created a local ketogenic diet program to help people who were heading towards diabetes and obesity.
This program eventually developed into The Healing Foods Method. Vivica keeps teaching her course locally in addition to a number of classes on the ketogenic diet, traditional nourishing foods and cooking classes.
The Healing Foods Method has been very successful from the very beginning, privately filling the program consistently until the recent release to the public.

Hi Vivica,
Thank you for your insight! Are you still in the carnivore diet? I’ve been debating trying this diet but I feel it would be so boring after a while. There’s an extensive variety on keto (as your blog is evidence of!) that gives both mental and physical satisfaction so I’m reluctant to try since my only real motivation to try this way of eating is to get leaner. Also, I’ve read some work by other bloggers, one of whom stated it gave her thyroid problems after about a year and a half, so I’m curious to know if you had any issues the longer you were on it, if you are still on it.
Hi Samantha, I am not doing Carnivore myself 100% but do what I call a modified carnivore/keto/ I use more carbs at night, but the base of my diet is meat and fat! It depends on your hormones and where they are at….As far as variety I am working on a carnivore cookbook right now for my publisher…;)
Let me know if you need help we can always do a consult! (in that case email me directly at vivica@thenourishedcaveman.com)
Good luck
