Insulin Resistance: Why is it so important for weight loss and blood sugars.
There is a lot of talk about insulin resistance…I am sure a lot of you are confused about what it really means and how it relates to your own issues with high blood sugars, excess weight (especially midriff weight) and hormone balance.
It is almost unbelievable that “modern medicine” has not been able to really connect the dots between the presence of insulin resistance and the consumption of sugar and carbohydrates, especially refined, processed ones.
In this enlightening interview with Dr Jason Fung, author of  “The Obesity Code” and a true expert on the subject, we finally get some clarity on the real causes and effects of insulin resistance, and even better we get some concrete ideas on how to tackle the problem!

Dr Jason Fung’s Bio
I grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I went to the University of Toronto at age 17 to begin studies in Biochemistry. By 23, I completed medical school at the U of T, and began my Internal Medicine residency there.
Finishing my specialty of Internal Medicine, I chose Nephrology (kidney disease) as my sub-specialty.
I returned to Toronto in 2001 to start my career in Nephrology, where I still have both an office and hospital practice. Type 2 diabetes is by far and away the leading cause of kidney disease, and I treat many hundreds of patients with this disease. Many also have obesity. By the early 2010s my interest in nutrition, combined with my professional focus on obesity and T2D had led me directly to the diabesity puzzle.
Next Month’s Interview:
For August’s interview I am super excited to bring you Kelly Bejelly published author and genius behind the blog “A girl Worth Saving” who is going to talk with us about her latest e-book “The Sleep Miracle” and share her wonderful knowledge on the science of good sleep!
My prbleom was a wall until I read this, then I smashed it.
Thank you I am so glad!!
Hi. Great interview! I had a question. Does this model for thin diabetics? My BMI’s is 20 and don’t want to loose too much weight.
Hi Are you just trying to lower blood sugar and insulin? Then yo just have to modulate calories for maintenance. You can do Keto without losing weight!
Thank you, both, for providing this discussion. I have been on a low carb diet for about a month. I am not diabetic but fear becoming so and have been told that I am prediabetic and will never be anything better than prediabetic and should prepare for being diabetic as I age because all of this is supposed to get worse. It has been extremely depressing. I recently tested my a1c levels and was disappointed to find that they had not dropped. Listening to this discussion has helped me to understand that there may still be hope for me.
I do not have a fasting plan that I follow and I do not have a doctor that would consider monitoring me while fasting. I can’t imagine being successful at fasting because I am hungry all the time (you reference this in your discussion). Is there anything I can do on this front that might help me but not be so sevee as to require a doctor to monitor my health?
Pixie I was pre-diabetic 2 ears ago!! Not only I have reversed that, but also my insulin resistance and lost all the weight I needed to lose. There is hope!!!

Great info! Many thanks!
I have had great success with keto under doctor’s supervision. Weight loss was not my goal but having a healthy weight as a therapeutic goal is certainly of value. As Dr. Fung says, the approach should be tailored to the individual.
It’s remarkable to see many of the current advocates of keto and fasting, as well as the carnivore diet, have personal stories involving obesity and T2D. No one is exempt, not even health care practitioners who one would expect to live by their professional principles.
Thank you for sharing 🙂
