About Keto Weight Loss Stalls
Have you ever experienced a weight loss stall while doing a ketogenic diet?
A lot of people come to me after trying to do keto on their own and then reaching a seemingly unbreakable plateau.
Most people think the solution to this problem lies solely in the fine tuning of calories, macros and exercise, but the truth is that there are some much deeper issues at play here. If they are not addressed, the weight loss stall will most likely not be easily broken.
In this interview with Leanne Vogel, creator of the amazing blog Healthful Pursuits, aside form our usual silliness, we address some very serious topics: the true reasons why you can not keep losing weight!

Leanne, after listening to some if your videos about carb up I recognized something in myself. I’ve been eating Keto for a year. My fasting blood glucose went up to 90’s and sometimes even in low 100’s when waking But when I eat a carb up meal it is in the 80’s. Assuming this is my liver. It’s kind of frustrating. But I do t feel so weird now. I’m loving your videos. You are so inspiring.
Thanks for a nice interview and great information ladies. The takeaway for me at this time in my life is to stay hydrated. I’m definitely going to use Vivica’s electrolyte mix. I should give up coffee – sometimes it makes me angry – but perhaps that will be a 6 month goal. Thanks so much for the information.
You are very welcome Kim!! Coffee is a big deal for me…I do take all my patients off it for the duration of my program…if you have adrenal fatigue, coffee is like famously shooting yourself in the foot!!
One thing I love about Keto is that there is evidence (ie, well designed studies) which backs it up as safe and effective. But I’m having a tough time with the concept of adrenal fatigue. Where can I read about actual studies on it. I don’t want anecdotes – I want real, hard evidence of it’s causes and possible solutions.
Amy I deal with it in my clinical practice every day and I have entire courses I took based on it….I am not sure what there is online as far as “studies”. All the material I have is for practitioners…let me have a look and I will post something here…
I totally agree on the white rice. I really thought I was the only one. Whenever I eat any kind of grain my brain doesn’t feel right. I can focus and I’m super irritable.
I just recently switched to eating high fat and practice daily carb ups in the evening to support my adrenals, thyroid and sex hormones. I’m so grateful that Leanne mentioned gaining a little weight when starting to eat more calories but then losing it once her body realized it didn’t need to store it. I come from a disordered eating background and easily get freaked out about food, my weight and not being loveable.
This video was exactly what I needed today to encourage me to keep going on my journey because ultimately I feel great eating fat mmmmmm….
Thanks u ladies for making my Sunday evening spectacular! Xoxo xoxo

I really appreciate your videos!! I am a 42 year old Mom, and have really just started the keto diet. I have struggles with my weight my entire life. I was diagnosed with pcos when I was around 18. I have been on the keto diet for almost a month. After just the first two weeks, I lost 15.5 pounds! I know a lot of that was indeed water weight. I do tend to hold a lot of water. I am in ketosis, I test almost daily. I feel AMAZING!!!! I’m able to get up early in the mornings again. Brain fog is gone. I have so much energy!!! But the scale has stopped moving. Is this normal to have a stall so early on?
Hi Spring. When you stall so early it means you might have health issues that require attention, like adrenal fatigue or hormonal imbalances. Those do not go away with just doing keto….I would recommend looking deeper into that. Sorry I can not offer a quick fix, but real health has no quick fixes…I deal with such problems with my patients every day!!
Best of luck to you!
New to keto diet…almost 3 weeks in. No cheats except last Saturday, had red wine. Down 8lbs in the first week now nothing, staying the same. I started menstrual cycle three days ago…wondering if that can throw things off? Also, purchased keto stix and tried it today…neg/trace results. ..feedback is welcome! Trying not to get discouraged. Thanks
HI Sheri, Keto is not a magic bullet! It really depends HOW you are doing keto, and WHAT your health is underneath the surface of the eating and macros…
Periods DO influence your weight and water retention for sure!
Just keep learning and keep on track!
Good luck!
Hello All, I am at a total plateau!! Please help!! I am not sure what I am doing wrong here. I lost 10 lbs and that was since I started last year! Please let me know how I can be apart of this program??
