About The Nourished Caveman

I love food! When I started working with nutrition, patients were constantly telling me that they did not know what to eat, or how to make simple, satisfying meals that were healthy and delicious. So I started writing some Paleo recipes for them and then organized them in a blog.
This has evolved into the site you see now: A blog for low-carb, Keto friendly, Paleo recipes which are fun and uncomplicated and combine local, seasonal and organic foods as much as possible, but also a place for nutrition information and guidance.
These are the guidelines to all the recipes contained here:
ā€¢Ā Ā  Ā Grain Free
ā€¢Ā Ā  Ā Mostly Dairy Free (except for specific Ketogenic recipes)
ā€¢Ā Ā  Ā Fresh, real ingredients. I also use a lot what I preserve myself form my own harvest.
ā€¢Ā Ā  Ā All veggies are organic
ā€¢Ā Ā  Ā All meats organic, free range, fed what nature intended and treated better than just humanely!
ā€¢Ā Ā  Ā Local and seasonal as much as possible.
ā€¢Ā Ā  Ā Focus on organ meats, them being the foundation of health.

Ā Vivica’s Bio

Vivica Menegaz is a certified whole-food nutritionist, blogger, published author and one of the leading voices advocating for a food-based approach to healing. Vivica was the first one to use the now popular expression ā€œKeto Paleoā€ to describe her lifestyle and way of eating.

She is the founder of the ā€œThe Healing Foods Method’ ā€“ an 14 week online nutrition program where she works 1-on-1 with clients to turn their health around utilizing a therapeutic ketogenic diet for healing (keto paleo).

Tracing back to her Italian origins, Vivica is a passionate cook whose love of healing food has been shared with millions through her blog, ā€œThe Nourished Caveman.ā€

While living in Northern California, pursuing her self-sufficiency dreams and practice of nutrition, Vivicaā€™s life came to a turning point when she discovered she was pre-diabetic. The nourishing Paleo foods she had been advocating we evidently not the whole solution to modern health problems. Fueled by this discovery, Vivica dove into research and found the ketogenic diet. It was love at the first bite.

Within the first couple of months, her blood glucose levels dropped, she shed excess weight, her brain fog cleared up and her energy levels skyrocketed. After a year of successful keto paleo lifestyle Vivicaā€™s own health journey took another turn as she was now diagnosed with Hashimotoā€™s and Hypothyroidism. Again she had to rely on her studies and practical applications to resolve those challenges, and that is how she became the first holistic nutritionist to successfully utilize a ketogenic approach as the foundation to endocrine rebalancing.

Vivicaā€™s therapeutic approach to food, lifestyle and supplementation, utilizes the healing power of foods and mindset, to address the incapacitating symptoms of many lifestyle-diseases that have plagued our modern lives.

She has made it her mission to help others reclaim their health and quality of life.

Vivica is also the author of 3 cookbooks: ā€œThe Ultimate Paleo Cookbookā€ 2015, together with 9 other bloggers, and ā€œthe big book of Fat Bombsā€ in 2016. Her latest book: ā€œthe Keto Paleo Kichenā€ was released in December 2017.

Nice to “meet” you. Your life seems much more interesting than mine :). And your photography is gorgeous!

    • The Nourished Caveman says:

Thank you Debbie! I am not sure if you ca say “interesting” or CRAZY” sometimes….:p
PS I was a professional food photographer for 10 years, that should help right?!

No wonder your pictures are amazing! I just stumbled across your website today, in search of a homemade (and easy and HEALTHY) recipe for Nutella, which my husband loves and which makes me cringe thinking of all the nastiness that comes in it when you buy it at Costco or something. Anyways, I love you and your site already! I am eager to try some of your recipes! God Bless you and your family and keep on keeping on! šŸ™‚

    • The Nourished Caveman says:

BLUSH!!! Thank you so much Maia. PS On the Nutella recipe, I think I need to refine it a bit, but you can play around with it. My biggest problem was consistency, I think that if you can use a grain grinder or high power blender to reduce the hazelnuts to a fine powder, then melt the butter and emulsify it with tha same blender into the cacao/nut mixture, you should get a much creamier texture.
PS I have a new Paleo Nutella variation coming up soon!!!

Your blog looks amazing Vivika, I can see you love cooking and also I have tasted your amazing food ! ( I am lucky yes I know). Since I have witness your lifestyle I have been encourage to eat less sugar. However, I cannot leave the rice YET, who knows one day you inspire me all they way! Keep up your organized disorganization, it looks great and unique! šŸ™‚

    • The Nourished Caveman says:

Thank you so much for the compliment! You are very kind!
I was also lucky enough to eat your great cooking, in fact I could eat your bulgogi every day!!!
Rice is not so bad…I would try to watch the potato chips though! šŸ˜‰

  4. delores, tilley says:

I am a diabetic and have heart disease and kidney disease ; is this diet safe for me?

    • The Nourished Caveman says:

Yes, Dolores, but I would stick to a Keto Paleo diet, so it’s clean and free of allergens. You can eat keto sometimes and still eat very poorly šŸ™

  5. Sandra Gray says:

I bought your book, “The Everything Big Book of Fat Bombs”. Some of the carb listings could not possibly be right. Are the two digit listings just missing a decimal point or did you mix up grams with another measurement?

    • The Nourished Caveman says:

Sandra, please look at the main page of the blog, I have a PDF for download with the right macros. It is also in the Amazon page comments! The publisher messed up the macros šŸ™

  6. Christopher Mercado says:

Male here and very interested in this diet just wondering since this is directed towards woman if this lifestyle of eating will work for me.

  7. Star says:

Just googled carnivore- came across your carnivore recipes. I see one that is basted in olive oil. I am under the impression after research, that the only fats that can withstand high temps are animal based, not plant. Plant and seed turning into a carcinogenic chemical and therefore only using olive oil for taste, not cooking. What are YOUR thoughts on this?
Also, I am 100% sugar free, even substitutes.
Do you practice this in your way of eating or no? Thoughts?
Thank you for your info, great ideas here. Just some of your thoughts..

    • The Nourished Caveman says:

      Hi Star
some of the recipes in the round-up were not intended to be strict carnivore, but you can easily modify them. I would skip the olive oil and use tallow or lard instead. Even ghee would be better. I personally use olive oil but not for cooking. I use it raw. I also am not doing a strict carnivore diet, but a modified one, so I do eat some vegetables especially fermented ones. I hope this helps šŸ™‚

Hi! How can I contact you directly. Iā€™m fat adapted but unfortunately I feel drained all the time. Iā€™m guessing adrenal fatigue. I need a consultation.
