After two years of this diet and lifestyle here is my Keto Paleo Progress Report!! Read how I healed my thyroid and lost 30 pounds! The Love Story Continues: Keto Paleo Progress Report

About 2 and a half years ago my Keto journey began, and completely changed my life in so many ways!

You can read my first Keto Paleo Progress Report Post from that time, to understand fully where I came from!

Since then, I have  adopted a totally new lifestyle, which has rebalanced my peri-menopausal hormones, got my thyroid back to normal, shrunken the fibroids and helped me lose 30 pounds!

Also in those 2 years this “little” blog has grown a lot, and now reaches more than 5000 people per day!

I have published 2 cookbooks, and my own Keto Paleo cookbook is on the way.

I have opened my own long distance nutritional practice, and saw huge life and health transformations in my patients, happen right under my eyes!

My life has been filled with the gifts of this diet and lifestyle!

Let me tell you more details about all of it.

My Health Journey

Two years ago when I was beginning my keto journey and getting my pre-diabetes under control, I had to deal with another rude awakening….my illusion of being super healthy was slowly crumbling, as I found out I was also hypothyroid and had a beginning of Hashimotos. I was also very anemic!

Slowly I started the process of understanding why and how I could have got to such an unbalanced place, which became a huge motivator, as I started focusing my studies on restorative endocrinology, which means rebalancing hormones systems through nutrition and lifestyle.

I began to understand the deep connections between the foods we eat, our stress levels and the delicate balance of our hormones, especially for women, a knowledge that is proving invaluable in helping my patients now.

It took about a year and a half to start really getting better, and for my thyroid to come back online, and of course I had to heal my adrenals first and address my sex hormones as well.

In the process I had also discovered some fantastic and unique supplements that made a huge difference for me and I could use in my practice!

My Weight Loss Journey

Right now I am probably in the best shape I have ever been in my entire life!

I have a lot of energy, even when things get really stressful, and I have become much better at managing that through a consistent yoga practice, which keeps both my mind and my body in a very good place!

I started keto 2 years ago at around 150 pounds. Last month I was 122 pounds. I always liked being thin, but I realized that being strong and healthy is more important than being just skinny, so I have come back to 126 pounds and trying to work on muscle mass and definition instead.

What Do I Eat Now?

Am I still eating strict Keto like at the very beginning? Do I still follow strict macros?

The answer is no!

I am now doing a cyclical diet where I eat keto / low carb about 3 or 4 days of the week, then increase my carbs to about 100 to 150 grams for a couple of days. I am not very strict with this routine, it really just flows naturally with my schedule and workouts. If I am going to be sitting at my desk all day, then I try to limit carbs and calories to a min. If I am going to be very active, I use more of both! As my schedule constantly changes because of the nature of my work, I have learned to stay flexible and adapt to the circumstances!

If you are curious to see WHAT I actually eat, you can find a lot of my meals on my Instagram account!

I still eat foods that are consistent with Keto Paleo, so no grains, no dairy, almost no fruits! If i feel the need to cheat, I can occasionally, but I still avoid gluten completely…as it really does not help my cause!

An occasional piece of cheese or fruit does not kill me, and I have no problems continuing my lifestyle because I do not have to obsess over food anymore…I eat simple, clean and I feel good!

After two years of this diet and lifestyle here is my Keto Paleo Progress Report!! Read how I healed my thyroid and lost 30 pounds!

My Work!

So in the last 2 years, my love story with Keto has produced a few children! 😉

My oldest and favorite is of course my main program: The Healing Foods Method – helping people and seeing how their lives transformed has been the biggest blessing in my life!

A cookbook!! My first very own book! The big Book Of Fat Bombs (PS if you get the book please NOTE that some of the macros are wrong! The publisher is having them recalculated and I will post a correction PDF asap!)

Then of course this blog with all the added media pages: Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram, and all the wonderful collaborations that have come from it, as you can find on my press page!

I am so grateful for this lifestyle and this knowledge! I can truly say that I am one of those fortunate people who has found their calling and purpose in life, and I am able to live it every day through what I do!

Thank you as well, so much, for following my story and my adventures, for being adventurous yourself and trying my recipes, and for making steps, no matter how many or how small, to get in charge of your health and your whole life. You really owe it to yourself and you deserve it!

What about you??

I would love to hear your story with Keto Paleo if you want to share it with me! I would also love to hear what you think of mine…

Please comment below or post on my FB page. Let’s have a conversation! 🙂

Emily, do not give up! Also make sure you do the right kind of Keto diet, they are not all created equal! For women I recommend following me (hehe of course 😉 ) Leanne Vogel and Martina of ketodietapp.

Emily, Adkins is not Keto!! I would recommend trying a real keto Paleo diet instead!

This really interests me as I’m also Hypothyroid for the lost 3 years after I over supplemented with iodine. I have been on Keto 2 months now and am better for it. I’ve only in the last few weeks begun to have days where I eat some carbs and I seem to be getting better results mixing it up. I am keen to know more on how you got your thyroid back in order.

I started with the GAPS diet, and after a week I was so tired I couldn’t get out of bed. So I went back to normal eating for two weeks and then tried it again, with the same results but not nearly as bad. The third time I tried it I ate limited carbs for one day every five days and now I feel great. On the GAPS I do eat a lot of homemade yogurt that I make from raw milk, and I eat a lot of animal fat and eggs. Overall I feel really great. Im not sure the difference between paleo and GAPS. Is the GAPS a keto diet?

Hi Heidi, no GAPS is not keto or paleo! It is a good diet, rich in nourishing foods, but does not count carbs, so it is not ideal for carb sensitive people. Also is very rich in dairy, unlike paleo which has no dairy, so might not be appropriate if you are dairy sensitive!

Hey Vivica, you’re eating the same way as i do….. i was on the keto diet for many years but felt not so good. I experienced mood swings, fatique and stalled with my weight lifting ( i had no energy for weight-lifting at all) than i introduced carb meals in the evening on workout days and my energy came back. Sometimes it is just a large cheat meal but i enjoy life so much more now..and feal great with lots of energy!! What is your experience with carb meal days??? For me it’s easier to stay lean (leptin reset)?????

I’m hoping I will have a success story one day just like yours. I’ve been doing keto for several months and I believe in it, but I have so many health issues I’m not sure if it will work for me.
I had adrenal failure 16 years ago and a doctor put me on Prednisone. Now I can’t seem to get off of it. My now PCP says I’m pre-diabetic and my pancreas can’t keep up with all the steroids (sugar, cortisol) dumped into my blood everyday. I store glucose (sugar to fat) so dieting is like a yo-yo. I have RA and many health issues as a result from that.
I watch all the health summit’s and work very hard to get well. My hormones are totally out of wack! Any suggestions?

Linda, I used a lot of different supplements and techniques to help me overcome my issues…that’s what I do for my patients now.

    Truly inspirational, what a journey!!!

I have been Keto since January. Lost 2 stone, of the 3 stone I probably needed to lose. Loving it. Plus I am blogging about my training for a marathon on a keto diet.

I believe there is a lot humans haven’t discovered yet (well actually forgotten) about fat adapted endurance.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey! I have just recently been diagnosed with PCOS, Hormone imbalance and insulin resistance, on top of a low-ish thyroid, after literally YEARS of dieting and working out with horrible results, I’ve actually gained 25 lbs in the last 2 years despite my serious effort to lose. I have recently found keto dieting and your blog has been super helpful!

I do not see a great deal of difference in your photo’s, different angles in each that changes the shadow angle. I would guess most women would be happy to have your before body. Not to be sexist; but your hot in all three.
Me? Keto is for the brain, any shedding of stored bad things in stored fat is just an added benefit.

Well, thank you Olivia….we all have different bodies and health challenges. i just wanted to share mine because it what I have and what motivated me to help others in the first place! For me keto is not about just looking good, it is about feeling good in your own skin, feeling healthy, feeling stable and positive. “mens sana in corpore sano” said my ancestors!! 😉

Hi. I was doing fine on keto but then fell off. I feel this is because I’m allergic to eggs. Extremely. I can’t eat anything with eggs in. When I take away dairy as well, I’m just depressed. Sigh. Comments? Help?

      everly,
most likely you can reset the egg sensitivity by completely abstaining form them ad healing your gut. Should not take longer than 3 or 4 months. If that helps to give you hope!

Yes. Especially at the beginning. Keto or not you need a calorie deficit to lose weight!

I love that you were able to shrink your fibroids. May I ask what you did you achieve this? I’ve suffered with them for most of my life. I’m only 37 but I’ve had them since high school. 🙁

Pamela it was a combination of diet, detoxing and herbs. Diet alone is not enough to fix such long standing problems with deep roots. Te first thing is yo find where the problem originates then a variety of tools are used to resolve it.

    Great story!
I’ve been in Keto diet for over a year now!
I had a very bad sinusitis and allergy. I read in the different weblogs people were saying that gluten-free diet helped with their allergy problem. So, I started eating gluten free and my sinusitis was much better. Then I started eliminating diet and finally I realized it is carb. Then I get familiar with the keto diet, and when I started it magically my sinusitis and allergy was gone. I also lost 30 pounds as a good side effect. Other benefits that I got from this diet, no skin problems, better sleep, more energy, not-fluctuating mood, better digestion. Before keto diet I always needed a nap after lunch, but not anymore. Keto changed my body and my life style completely. I am a very different person compared to the last year!
